APCUPSD / SOLARIS / Killpower problem (09-Nov-2016 13:04)

Dear Carl,

I am running APCUPSD on some Solaris 11.3 systems. Everything works fine (thanks so far) but the killpower command isn't working. We use the model 'Back-UPS XS 1400U' from APC (USB). Do you have an idea what is going wrong with it?
I really want the servers to restart immediately and automatically after the AC power restore. I hope for your help...

Call via apccontrol:
[hidden email]:~# sh /etc/opt/apcupsd/apccontrol killpower
apcupsd FATAL ERROR in apcupsd.c at line 232
Unable to open UPS device for hibernate or
[hidden email]:~#

Same problem when calling it directly:
[hidden email]:~# sh /etc/opt/apcupsd/apccontrol killpower
apcupsd FATAL ERROR in apcupsd.c at line 232
Unable to open UPS device for hibernate or
[hidden email]:~#

The Part of apcupsd.c that causes this error:
   if (hibernate_ups || shutdown_ups)
   {
      // If we're hibernating or shutting down the UPS, setup is a one-shot.
      // If it fails, we're toast; no retries
      if (!setup_device(ups))
         Error_abort("Unable to open UPS device for hibernate or shutdown");

      if (hibernate_ups)
         initiate_hibernate(ups);
      else
         initiate_shutdown(ups);

      apcupsd_terminate(0);
   }

Re: Fw: APCUPSD / SOLARIS / Killpower problem

Stan
Hi Simon,

I am having similar bug problem! But for new Ubuntu 16.04.
I have reported it here as well in the hopes of finding someone else
with the same problem like me.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apcupsd/+bug/1634572

I really hope the apcupsd team can get to the bottom of this killpower
issue. Seems like its affecting mostly new distros now :(

Regards,
Stan

Both Ted and Sergey explained that your problem is not with apcupsd, but
with your OS, Your issue cannot be fixed by any change to apcupsd.

As you have lodged a bug with your OS maintainers, you now need to bug
them to fix it :)
